Prof. Ivo Dino Sagrestano, 1923 - 2012

Prof. Sagrestano was born in Dubrovnik. He dedicated his life to performing music and education. He started studying violin with F. Povia at early age. Before WW Two he got scholarship from Music School “Santa Cecilia” in Rome where he studied violin with famous Gioconda de Vito. During WW2 he had to go back to Dubrovnik. Later, he continued his music education in Zagreb in the class of I. Weiland. After that he continued studies at Music Academy in Ljubljana in the class Prof. Leon Pfajfer. He performed as a concertmaster at Dubrovnik Festival Orchestra,Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, Sarajevo Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra and many others. In Sarajevo, along his students and other young musicians, he founded , and acted as a Music Director and Conductor of “Sarajevo Chamber Orchestra “. In teaching violin, his demand was very high standards in every aspect of playing. He had beautiful sound, and he tried to develop same quality with his students. He believed that beginning studies of violin is the most important. As a result he worked with very young students. In 1963, upon invitation of Sarajevo's Music Academy, he left Dubrovnik and became professor at this school where he teated until his retirement. He was also a professor in High Music School. Among his first graduate students were: Medle Radoslava, Augustin Martinovic and Sandy Cobenzel. Later on, his students were Violeta Smailovic, Maja Verunica, Sasa Olenjuh, Plamenka Koprivica, Iva Kusturica and many other. His students, were the winners of many competitions in the former Yugoslavia , and around the world.
